The Brief
S4C needed a complete digital presence for Cyw, their flagship pre-school children's brand. This wasn't a one-off project — it was an ongoing, evolving digital ecosystem that needed to grow with the brand and its audience over many years, all delivered primarily in Welsh.
My Role
As Creative Director and Producer at Cube Interactive, I led the design, development, and ongoing evolution of the Cyw digital platform from 2007 to 2014 — websites, apps, games, and interactive content across web and mobile.
Approach
We built a modular content system that allowed S4C's team to create and publish interactive activities, games, and videos across web and app simultaneously. Everything was Welsh-first by design, not as an afterthought.
The platform evolved from a simple companion website to a full multi-platform ecosystem including dedicated iOS and Android apps, interactive games tied to broadcast content, and educational activities aligned with S4C's children's programming schedule.
Outcome
The Cyw digital platform ran successfully for over seven years, winning a BAFTA Cymru award and becoming one of the most important Welsh-language digital resources for pre-school children. It demonstrated that high-quality Welsh-language digital content could compete with English-language equivalents and helped establish Cube as a leader in bilingual digital production.
